Governor Signs Bill To Help Prevent Shaken Baby Syndrome

Gov. Jim Doyle has signed a bill to help prevent Shaken Baby Syndrome.
The governor said Tuesday that about one-half of the people who shake a child don't realize the potential harm.
The bill requires the production of brochures and materials on the dangers of shaking a child.
It also requires hospitals, county departments and maternity homes to distribute them
Schools will also be required to provide instruction on Shaken Baby Syndrome to students in 11th grade as well as in one of grades five through eight.
"Education is our best defense against Shaken Baby Syndrome, and that's exactly what this bill is about," Doyle said in a news release.
