State residents seeking assistance paying their winter heating bills might find help as a result of a new $6 million allocation to the state's energy assistance program.
The Energy Help Initiative, signed into law by Gov. Jim Doyle on Wednesday, extends heating bill assistance eligibility to Wisconsin households with incomes of up to 175 percent of the federal poverty level. Families that qualify will share assistance averaging $200 to $300 per household.
Residents of Outagamie and Winnebago counties can learn more about application sites and procedures by calling Energy Services Inc. at 800-506-5596. Information on the Energy Help Initiative is available statewide by calling 866-432-8947, or visiting www.energy help.wi.gov.
