Good News on Home Heating for Wisconsin Families
March 2, 2006
I have great news to share with you about progress that has been made on my emergency home heating proposal for Wisconsin’s working and middle class families.
As you know, I proposed a reasonable home heating assistance package in my State of the State in January designed to help hardworking families struggling to afford their bills and heat their homes during this very cold Wisconsin winter. But Republicans in the Legislature delayed for over a month.
Today, a compromise package was approved in the state Senate that will provide the much-needed $6 million for up to 40,000 working families who really need this help. I look forward to quick approval by the Assembly – and to signing this important emergency home heating assistance into law.
This is a big step forward and I’m pleased that Republicans and Democrats worked together to help Wisconsin families keep warm.
Sincerely,
Governor Jim Doyle
